My Journey
I’m Beatriz Talerico, a Dominican-American U.S. Navy veteran who traded life at sea for life on the page. After more than twenty years in uniform, I discovered that the discipline, grit, and humanity I learned in the Navy were the perfect ingredients for storytelling. Now I write bold, cinematic stories for film, television, and readers of all ages, blending sci-fi imagination, cultural roots, and big-hearted human drama.
I’m currently studying Writing for Film and Television at the Los Angeles Film School and building a Dominican-inspired children’s book series that’s close to my heart. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me hiking or paddleboarding in Hawai‘i with my husband, Brian, and our Australian Shepherd, Poseidon, who insists on being my unofficial co-writer.
Reinvention is my favorite story theme — mostly because I’m living it!

Welcome to My Blog!
This is where I slow down, breathe, and let you in on the stories behind the stories. As a Dominican-American writer and former U.S. Navy officer, my creative life has been anything but traditional, and that’s precisely what I love about it. Here, I share reflections from my journey, lessons I’ve learned along the way, behind-the-scenes looks at my projects, and the ideas that keep me up at night (in the good way).
Whether you’re a fellow writer, a curious reader, or someone exploring your own reinvention, I’m glad you’re here. Grab a cafecito, settle in, and let’s talk stories, culture, growth, and the wild, beautiful process of creating something new.
Bienvenidos — let’s dive in.
